Windows allowing natural ventilation

Windows allowing natural ventilation

The primary design criteria was to fully integrate natural ventilation into the design of a 19,000 s.f. indoor recreational swimming pool building. BOA’s design solution was a dynamic double-curved roof structure oriented to take advantage of the westerly prevailing winds in the Mediterranean climate of Southern California.

Large expanses of screened window area and slide-up windows ventilate pool chemical odors and moisture before its corrosive effects can harm the roof structure. All rooms have at least two window openings on different walls to provide cross-ventilation into the building design deleted all costs of HVAC and dehumidification system. The swimming pool can accommodate over 300 swimmers and eight racing lanes in meters and yard.
